What is Powder Coating?
Powder Coating is a dry finishing technique that provides a high quality and durable finish across metal materials for both the domestic and industrial market. This results in a surface finish that is resistant to scratches, UV rays, rust whilst producing a consistent finish. Its application is extremely diverse, with an extensive range of textures and colours to choose from.
This decorative coating is applied directly onto the item in a fine powder form that is electrostatically charged. Following that, it is heated / baked in a specialised oven to bond the powder to the substrate and create a consistent finish on the surface of the item.

The Powder Coating Process
Over the past 25 years Nucolour Powder Coating has continued to be at the forefront of powder coating techniques. The powder coating process itself can be separated into 5 important steps:
- Item Preparation – depending on the condition, material and size/shape of the item Nucolour Powder Coating will use a variety of methods to clean the surface of any oils, grime, dirt or grease.
- Pre-Treatment – to ensure that the best results are achieved the item is further treated with special chemicals that cleans/protects and prepares the surface for optimal adhesion with the powder film.
- Dual Rinsing and drying
- Application of powder coating via specially engineered electrostatic guns
- Curing – the item is placed in a state of the art oven and heated to the correct temperature in order to bond the powder to the item. Following this, the items are appropriately cooled which results in a durable and consistent surface finish.
